  • Blog Day Afternoon Lurching to the Right - Blog Day Afternoon

I am keeping a running score of Obama's rightward repositioning:
    1. Public Financing
    2. This one I can almost forgive. Obama is looking at possibly one of the largest political campaign war chests in history, so why should he give it up and risk being swift-boated and be caught with his pants down?

    3. Telecom Immunity
    4. This is unforgivable. It speaks volumes on the political class's feelings about their own unaccountability when it comes to exercising power to further the Empire.

    5. Hang 'em High
    6. He is even farther right than the Republican Court! A marked achievement. Of course, being consistently against the death penalty is not the same as being pro-child-rape, but I guess Obama does not respect voters enough to recognize they understand the distinction.

    7. AIPAC boot-licking
    8. Some day, it would be nice if a mainstream candidate was not at the mercy of this mega-lobby which has somehow conflated the aims of apartheid Zionists with US foreign policy.

What am I missing? Is this an unfair characterization?

This election is the Democrats to lose. But throwing his supporters under the bus does not seem like a good strategy. If I was Obama, I would be more worried about losing leftists to Nader and as a result a key swing state, than I would be to losing Democrat Hawks to McCain.

Obama's only mistake was thinking people like you had a brain. For the past year he's been talking about getting past the Red/Blue divide and building a "new consensus" Where did you think that would take place, down at the local Union Hall? Whatta turd.
