Slope Ratings - General

Slope and terrain variations characterize ski trails. In order to designate them by ability, American ski areas classify runs with one of three categories. Each grade is color-coded; it is associated with a shape for quick identification: Green circles designate beginner trails. Blue squares signify intermediate runs. Black diamonds identify trails reserved for experts. Advanced hills also include double black diamonds and triple black diamonds. The most difficult trails are designated with the "oh shit!" sign, a yellow exclamation mark!
Trail ratings vary among ski areas. I've encountered blue hills in some resorts that rate black in others. Ratings are only relevent within a particular area. This trail is harder than that one while it's not as hard as others. In other words, if that blue square is kicking the crap out of you, don't bother wandering over to the blacks.
Since ratings vary, it seems pointless to label trails by ability. Skiing gets harder as the day grows long. As fatigue settles in, the same trail grows more difficult. Therefore I propose rating trails by the time of day: Black diamonds identify trails trails to be skied at opening bell. Blue squares are reserved for after lunch. Green circles designate trails you take back to the lodge as the day draws to a close.

I too am sick of this weather. If I could hang out at a lodge in front of a fire with my man and my Uggs, I'd be happy. Screw skiing and the elements, "Waiter, can you bring me another hot toddy?"

Not quite a feud - but definitely a difference of opinion of what "cold" means. I could move to AZ in a minute. Jeff would never want to live that far from The Meadowlands.

I wake each morning asking "Is it June, yet?". Which is unusual, since I usually enjoy a 'bracing' winter day. This winter, however, seems to be dragging its ass. Someone please haul it off!

If you strap two boards to your feet and hurl yourself down a snowfaced cliff it will change your entire attitude...
