Ancient Chinese Secret, Huh? - Blog Day Afternoon

The Pat Buchanan seeks to limit immigration. Foreigners represent the greatest threat to his vision of America: white, round and shiney. The Constitution, he says, obligates government to defend the states from foreign invasion. Unarmed job-seekers slipping over the border in an effort to obtain jobs should be met with armed resistance, he says. The United States is no longer a healthy melting pot, but a confused "conglomeration of peoples with almost nothing in common." A power shift will occur, Herr Buchanan warns, from Western peoples (whites) to non-Western peoples (non-whites) unless the country defends its borders and white chicks start cranking out more babies.
What a douchebag. Did you ever try to get a white guy to do your laundry? You might as well pray for world peace. Fortunately, Buchanan does not rule the world. Which is good since I god-damn hate to do the laundry. On the corner there was an Asian named--get this--Mister Lee. Well, what did you expect, Lipschitz? What a stoopid name, if your lip shits, then what's your ass do? Anyway, Mr. Lee god-damn did the laundry. He charged a mere fifty cents per pound. Although I was frequently ripped off by Mr. Lee's very young daughter who worked the cash register, he was still a bargain. "You didn't give me enough change," I'd tell her. "I did it right!" she'd say and run away. Little fart.
I discovered Mr. Lee was Korean when I invoked the most annoying commercial of my lifetime. "How do you get clothes so clean, Mister Lee?" He was supposed to tell me about Calgon. Instead he said simply, "I'm Korean, not Chinese." Yeah, so? "Well, that was your big chance. You should have said ancient Korean secret." Without a word, he gave me the proper change. Mister Lee didn't have a great sense of humor but he did your laundry for fifty cents per pound. A few years later, he announced an end to his laundry service. Lee's Laundry and Dry Cleaning became Lee's Dry Cleaning. That son of a bitch became part of the American establishment, too good to god-damn do the laundry. Pat Buchanan is an idiot. We need more immigrants willing to wash underwear for fifty cents per pound.

Screw laundry, we need more immigrants to come and open restaurants. Got any interesting dishes in Eastern Europe? I want to try them! Pho, falafels, fried rice, sushi....yum, and don't get me started on Mexican food. I adore it.

If Pat Buchanan had his way, all we'd eat is boiled beef, boiled cabbage and elephant mucus pie.

From Tales of the Bizarro World, by Anonymous, elitists defend immigration while egalitarians advocate closed borders backed by military might and electric fences.

On a related note, Stern is doing the F-Emmys today, and one category is "Best Rant by a Racist, Bigot, or Anti-Semite." For my money, the "God Hates Fags" group has it - hands down.

_The Death of the West_ is NOT a racist tirade against non-whites gaining power. Nor is it a rant against illegals taking American jobs, although Buchanan's populism does sometimes lend itself to anti-free trade protectionism.
Buchanan's argument is that unbridled immigration and the "melting pot" myth are a tool of a specific kind of anti-liberal (I use "liberal" to mean a person who favors individual liberty) who wishes to eliminate certain cultural practices in this country. The goal is to dissolve and deconstruct traditional American culture, e.g. rugged individualistic, "nuclear family", progressive Christian, and replace institutions such as family, community, and Church with the State. Then these particular anti-liberals will have the force of the State to coerce others into their particular vision of paradise. Buchanan favors immigration, but a controlled immigration, such that immigrants trickle in at a rate at which they can adopt and learn the culture of the country to which they are immigrating. His theory is that then they will no longer be tools for those who would oppress.
That is Buchanan's argument, as best as I can wrap my arms around it.

Please cite some examples of this "specific kind of anti-liberal", i.e., name some names. His theory sounds as though it was built on a firm foundation of unbridled paranoia....

If these illegals couldn't find work here, they wouldn't come here. But since they do, that means that someone here is willing to break the law and employ them. Most of those who employ this cheap illegal labor are people who own their own business and are trying to cut down on their labor cost to gain an advantage. If you really want to cut down on illegal immigrants, really hurt the ones who employ them when they are caught doing this. Fine them to the point where it's not worth it if they get caught.
Let me just clear up that I have nothing against immigrants, (I better not, I am one) and that I do not subscribe to Pat's point of view in any way.

I wasn't discussing illegal immigration; I do not advocate these violations of United States law. But Buchanan's position that anti-liberals are plotting to "dissolve and deconstruct traditional American culture" by raising legal immigration limits is volkisch nonsense. Buchanan wants to roll back immigration quotas to match the numbers of his Golden Age. I, on the other hand, propose an immediate hike in the sushi chef quota.

Which leads to the question: Do you actually favor means testing or skills screening of potential immigrants or should it be open to all? I believe some countries try to cream off the best immigrants.
Are we talking absolutely no limits on legal immigration (ala libertarianism) or does everyone agree to some limit with the debate about numbers?

I'd prefer that it be open to all. If we deem our sushi chef shortage a void that must be filled, then strategic incentives could be provided to close the gap. The measure by which immigrants are granted access should be limited to their ability to support themselves. On the other side, we see Pat Buchanan's draconian vision of electric fences and military presence along our nation's borders. (I'd like to know if he's calculated the expense of that endeavor.) If Matt's interpretation of his argument is correct, then if new immigrants are self sufficient, they will still damage the country. I disagree.

I don't think he was very clear about it. Buchanan has opinions about legal and illegal immigration. Plus in this post, he talks about "job-seekers slipping over the border," which clearly implies illegal immigration.

I don't think they should be forced to sneak over the border. And I certainly don't think they should be met with armed resistance. United States labor laws should be enforced and immigrants should be granted residency based self-sufficiency.

A. if illegal immigranst want jobs then let them stay in there own country, fix the job market/gov'mt there, and then they can come here through the proper channels. IE enter legally, become US citizens and renounce all loyalty to their "Homeland".
B. FSCK the immigrants doing laundry, cooking, etc. That is why there are women, and that is why men get married.:-)

All of you should spend at least a year living in a racially homogeneous country before spouting your opinions. Half of what you Americans think of as racism is common opinion in most countries in the world.

Paaaaalease, don't you all know that this debate is beat to death. There shouldn't be any borders anywhere. We all inhabit this earth and there's no birthright to the piece of ground you fell outta your momma's cunt on. Fricken cooperate not compete, that's the secret to success. By the way, Pat Butt-tanin can kiss it where the sun don't shine.
